Position Overview:
The Material Handler is responsible for keeping an efficient and effective material flow in our plant, feeding on time our bays with parts & materials as well as following proper tear down activities, maximizing winder utilization and minimizing waiting times due to winder conflicts or roll changes as well as operating forklifts and other equipment on a safely manner.
Key Responsibilites:
  • Understands, supports and adheres to the company’s health and safety policies, programs and procedures
  • Reports any equipment or building damage
  • Ensures that all winders are safely operated according to Safety Job Procedures and reports any mechanical issue or unsafe practice.
  • Executes production schedule prepared by the Planner by allocating material and parts in each bay, monitoring progress, resolving problems and reporting results of the material flow on shift production summaries
  • Respond on time to flag system requirements in order to minimize waiting times due to winder utilization or roll changes
  • Follow 5S standard practices inside our plant and in our yard: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain
  • Retrieve material from the yard to production floor using picking list
  • Respond on time to flag system requirements in order to minimize waiting times due to winder utilization or roll changes
  • Torch liners and deliver to shipping area
  • Packaging Layfield products as per company standards
  • Replenishing supply carts
  • Assisting with material and inventory cycle counts
  • Remove scrap/waste from the floor
  • Keep records of scrap pounds in the plant
  • Keep clean & organized MH areas
  • Forklift Certification
  • 5 years of forklift operating experience
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Knowledge of 5S and Continuous Improvement approach
  • Sound knowledge of safety regulations regarding equipment operation and product storage
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment 
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Knowledge of Quality Program (ISO) and capable of accessing program information.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills, and Syspro is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail with excellent data entry skills
  • Driven, self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Independent but able to work well within a team environment.
  • High degree of competence in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
