Seattle, Washington – March 2020

Layfield USA Corporation is pleased to announce the completion of the supply and installation of an extensive Brentwood unground StormTank detention system for the Kitsap County Transit Authority.
Wheaton Way Transit Center is a $10.3 million-dollar project for Kitsap Transit to service the Wheaton-way-press-release.jpgEast Bremerton area of the county. The finished Transit Center on SR303 features eight bus bays, a 162-stall Park & Ride car park with four electric car charging stations, bike racks, a small community police office, a comfort station, energy-efficient LED lighting, and rain gardens for stormwater treatment. Work began in August 2018 by clearing the site, followed by the installation of an extensive stormwater collection system.

The Bremerton area of Washington averages more than 56-inches of rain a year.  One of the main challenges of this project was to create a stormwater system that could handle a large amount of runoff and meet the strict Washington regulations for stormwater runoff.

Layfield USA was approached to help with the design and technical support of the stormwater system. It was determined the stormwater system would need to handle more than 100,000-ft3. of water; due to the restricted site layout and the loading criteria from a shallow pavement section, accomplishing this task was a challenge. Perteet Engineering selected the Brentwood stormwater system for onsite detention. This StormTank system included 8,102 double stacked 36” modules with geotextile and impermeable geomembrane and will feature rain gardens on the surface for early stormwater treatment. Layfield successfully completed the installation of the system in less than 20-days. Existing site utilities impacted the shape, resulting in a complex 4-liner system layout.
