Layfield Packaging and the Environment Video
Layfield Flexible Packaging is committed to offering sustainable packaging solutions. This video gives an overview of Layfield’s commitment to sustainability and the environment.
Each year, approximately 1.3 billion tons of food are lost or wasted. The packaging industry helps to preserve food and reduce food waste. Food packaging also helps conserve resources such as water, land, energy and labor that went into producing the food.
Flexible packaging is a very efficient use of resources with a small environmental footprint. Stand up pouches are lighter weight, take up less space, and contain less material than other types of packaging. This results in a higher product to package ratio when flexible packaging is used. Using flexible packaging reduces waste, results in fewer trucks on the road, and reduces fossil fuel use.
The production of flexible packaging consumes on average four times less energy than the alternatives. An aluminum can requires more than double the energy used to produce a stand-up pouch. A glass container uses over 700% more energy than a stand-up pouch! The production of flexible packaging also creates fewer emissions than the alternatives, making it the most sustainable choice for many food packaging needs.
Layfield offers sustainable end-of-life solutions, including biodegradable and recyclable food packaging. Layfield has a solution to accelerate the degradable process in landfills. This is a good option for laminated flexible packaging which are difficult to recycle. Layfield can also create single-polymer structures which are 100% recyclable.
