EnCana Foster Creek Drilling Waste Processing Facility Studliner Installation
The EnCana Oil and Gas Partnership operate a SAGD facility on the Cold Lake Weapons Range in Northern Alberta. Drilling functions in support of the SAGD operation produce approximately 400 m3 of drilling waste per well consisting of drilled sand, spent drilling fluids and hydrocarbons from the formation. EnCana sought to construct a Drilling Waste Processing Facility (DWPF), the first of its kind, to process these drilling wastes.
Layfield was awarded the geosynthetic portion of this high profile construction project due to our industry leading technical expertise and understanding of specialty work. Within the DWPF mud storage cells of this state of the art facility, Layfield installed a product specifically designed to provide protection to concrete structures. An 80 mil HDPE Studliner was cast into the interior and exterior concrete walls and grouted to the floors of the mud storage cells to provide the required primary and secondary containment.
Layfield, being an integral team member in the completion of this facility, has assisted EnCana in reinforcing their position as an industry leader in their commitment to environmental protection and awareness.
