Position Description
Layfield is looking for a Health, Safety & Wellness Advisor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a fantastic relationship builder and act as a trusted advisor and resource for all health, safety and wellness initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive safety culture.
This position will report to the Senior Human Resources Manager. The position will be based out of our Edmonton, Alberta office.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and support to all employees with respect to Health, Safety & Wellness, including presenting and participating in various meetings
- Maintain company safety manual compliance with applicable codes & regulations and conduct annual reviews.
- Monitor, measure, and report the effectiveness of all safety programs
- Develop, review, and update Company safety policies and procedures, including the development of Hazard Assessments, Safe Job procedures, and Competency Records
- Maintain and update internet-based prequalification programs (ISNetworld, CanQual, and Complyworks).
- Provide support with WCB cases and return-to-work programs
- Track and communicate incident/accident reports and identify strategies for prevention.
- Participate as an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee; conducts inspections, investigations, and OHS activities as required, both in-house and on project sites
- Assist with job hazard analyses, job procedures, and conducting safety drills
- Maintain all communications sources to ensure current, up-to-date information is available to all employees, including wellness promoting
- Record and report on safety statistics and performance KPIs, including WCB reporting
- Completes safety prequalification requirements as required
- Perform new employee safety orientations
- Assist in the instruction or arranging of safety training including, but not limited to WHMIS, PSTS, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Confined Space
- Coordinate internal/external audits for maintenance of Certificate of Recognition (COR)
- Assist in the procurement of safety-related equipment and PPE
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety regulations and legislation
- Knowledge of OSHA, H2S Alive, Confined Space, and WHMIS
- Willingness and ability to travel when necessary
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office
Education & Experience:
- Certificate, diploma, or degree accreditation in Safety
- CRSP Designation would be considered an asset
- Minimum three years’ experience within Construction or Industrial industry
