Sludge Dewatering

This sludge pond closure started with a high strength geotextileSludge is the collected byproduct of a biological treatment process. It contains a large amount of water and is difficult to drain or stabilize. Layfield has a number of techniques available to dewater or stabilize sludge.

Layfield’s featured product for sludge dewatering is the geotextile tube. High strength geotextile tubes are a method of rapidly dewatering sludge. The tubes are filled with sludge, and the water flows out through the fabric walls under gravity. Within a short period, the sludge has shed most of its water and can be disposed of as a solid and not as an expensive liquid. Layfield also supplies and installs high strength geotextiles than can be used to cap sludge ponds with a permanent earthen cap. Call your local Layfield office for assistance in designing a sludge pond cap with geotextile or to evaluate which type of soil tube would work with your sludge type.

"We were offered Geogrids made overseas from a small distributor, but we declined as their testing were suspect and they had no reputation in the market. We will only work with reputable suppliers like Layfield as their Geogrids perform as per recognized specifications." Kenny, Engineering & Scientific Consultant,
