Paul Berry
Regional Manager, Richmond BC
Q: What was your first impression of Layfield since joining the team?
My first impression happened before I joined the team. I visited the Edmonton office and met with the management team during the interview process. As I was reaching out to open the door, an old friend (David Otteson) opened the door for me and was very welcoming and excited to see me there. His positivity about Layfield was contagious! After speaking with him, I knew that Layfield was where I wanted to be!
During my first week, I was impressed with the attention to detail and the support given to ensure I was off to a great start. Everyone made the time to introduce themselves and made sure I was welcome to the family. I can’t speak highly enough about the first week’s experience.
Q: Can you describe your role and what you’re most excited about in this new position?
I am the new Regional Sales Manager based in the Richmond office. I am responsible for the province of British Columbia and the Yukon territory. I am excited by our opportunity in Richmond to develop our team and advance Layfield’s position in the markets we serve.
Q: What do you hope to contribute to our team and company culture?
I am big into corporate culture and lead by example. Our talented team is committed to the task ahead and excited to develop our business. I like strategy and executing a plan, and I genuinely love meeting and working with new people. I am looking forward to helping the team focus on the right clients and activities that will result in Layfield making an impact in the market. We win by including our teams in the vision, communicating goals well, and empowering our people to make the right decisions for the business. We help each other be accountable for being the best versions of ourselves.
Q: What interests you about the geosynthetics industry, and how did you get started in this field?
I got started in geosynthetics by accident. I was looking to develop my team-building skills and was offered an opportunity to grow and develop a group in the geosynthetics industry. I jumped at the chance and quickly learned that I enjoyed the products, projects, and people in the industry. I have a background in construction and understand the impacts of efficiency on project timelines and costs. The products we promote in the geosynthetic industry align with my thought process on delivering successful construction projects. The positive environmental impact we provide is a bonus!
Q. Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that you’d like to share with your colleagues?
I love skiing/snowboarding and cycling; sometimes, I can do both on the same day. I am looking forward to reconnecting with the BC Roadbuilders Fondo cycling group! I have participated in it in the past; it’s a great way to foster relationships and get in some hard-earned kilometres!
