Position Description
Successful Geomembrane Apprentice Technicians are expected to assist with the effective installation of geosynthetic materials as required by project specifications while complying with the Company’s safety and quality procedures.
In addition, the Geomembrane Apprentice Technician is a safety-focused individual who is adaptable to changing schedules, enjoys working outdoors year-round and is available to travel extensively throughout Canada for up to 24 days at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Strictly follow all Company and Client safety expectations.
- Able to perform manual labour duties.
- Actively contributes during safety meetings and assists with on-site risk assessments.
- Able to take directions from on-site leadership.
- Assist with the installation, welding, and repair of geomembrane liners and environmental containment systems.
- Able to inspect all tools and equipment prior to use and report defects to on-site leadership.
- Ensure continuous upkeep of housekeeping activities and maintains a clean, neat work area (including vehicles and accommodations).
- Able to make recommendations for safety improvements.
- Works cooperatively with all employees, demonstrates good teamwork, and makes a positive contribution to the team morale.
- Ensure time sheets are submitted correctly and on time each workday.
- Act as a good ambassador for Layfield and enhance the Company’s reputation on and off site, in interactions, etc.
- Maintain and upkeep all PPE issued.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge and experience with the majority of geomembrane welding related equipment, including operation, troubleshooting and repair.
- Knowledge of Quality Programs.
- Availability to travel to different job sites for extended periods of time (up to 24 days).
- Successfully pass pre-employment or pre-access (drug & alcohol & fitness) site testing.
- Safety-focused individuals who enjoy working within a team.
- Good analytical skills and sound judgment to resolve issues.
Education & Experience
- Experience within a construction environment is an asset.
- Have the following valid safety tickets/training: CSTS 2020, WHMIS, First Aid, H2S Alive, CSO.
- Have a valid driver’s License or government issued photo ID.
