Position Description

The Shipper-Receiver is responsible for daily shipping and receiving duties within a team environment with a strong focus on customer service.

Customer service, communication, problem-solving, and accuracy are key to succeeding in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and adhere to Layfield’s health and safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Practice safe work habits and report unsafe conditions to the Warehouse Supervisor.

Warehouse Responsibilities

  • Operate forklift (sit down and reach truck) and skid steer safely.
  • Unload inventory from inbound deliveries and verify counts on receiving documents.
  • Package and label received inventory for storage as per Layfield’s standards.
  • Pick customer orders, verify counts, and package products for shipment.
  • Load outbound shipments as per BOL and Company standards.
  • Transport materials to and from loading docks, delivery trucks, indoor and outdoor storages areas, and manufacturing area.
  • Assist with weekly material and inventory cycle counts.
  • Daily warehouse and outdoor yard housekeeping.
  • Cross train in the office as a backup for staff vacations.
  • Assist other Logistics staff with warehouse/yard tasks as required.

Office Responsibilities

  • Obtain freight rates/quotes with carrier(s) as required.
  • Select and/or schedule carrier(s) for outgoing shipments and capture freight costs in the Shipping App.
  • Notify Customer Service/Sales when customer pick-up orders are available.
  • Review and process shipping and receiving documentation for Procurement (Microsoft Lists) and Account (shipping recaps).
  • Process paperwork for outbound shipments (e.g. Pick Lists, BOL, custom documents).
  • Process paperwork for inbound shipments (e.g. purchase orders, customer returns).
  • All other related tasks as assigned by the Customer Experience Manager and/or the Warehouse Supervisor.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma.
  • Two (2) years of warehouse/transport experience.
  • Two (2) years of forklift operation experience.
  • Forklift Certification and Skid Steer Certification.
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Possess sound judgement.
  • Strong emphasis on safety.
  • Knowledge of warehouse equipment and packaging, as well as shipping standards.
  • Sounds knowledge of safety regulations surrounding equipment operation and product storage.
  • Required knowledge of 5S and continuous improvement approach.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction, quality and contributing to a safe and harmonious workplace.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ensures that communication is effectively transmitted to all necessary parties.
  • High degree of competence in written and oral communication.
  • Administrative experience with proven accuracy.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of shipping processes and documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
