Plant Apprentice Technicians

Layfield is looking to add Plant Apprentice Technicians to our Fabrication team. The Plant Apprentice Technicians are key production personnel and are responsible for the proper set-up and operation of equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience with basic hand tools, previous forklift experience and a wiliness to learn.

This position is based out of the Edmonton facility and will report directly to the Shift Lead Hand and indirectly to the Production Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety:

• Understand, support, and adhere to the company’s health and safety policies, programs, and procedures.
• Attend and participate in safety meetings.
• Complete risk assessment forms.
• Report any equipment or building damage to supervisors and/or safety team.

Production:

• Maximizes quality, production levels and efficiencies pertaining to all geosynthetic fabrication activities.
• Correctly sets ups, operates, maintains, and lubricates all equipment.
• Contributes to the cleanliness and organization of the fabrication plant and their work area.
• Communicates with the Shift Lead Hand regarding deficiencies in both materials and equipment.
• Utilize Shine Dashboards and Flag System in accordance with production.
• Makes a positive contribution towards continuous improvement of teamwork and quality of workplace objectives.

Quality Control & Assurance:

• Ensure quality in production by following organizational standards and ISO9001-2015.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

• Completion of grade 12.
• WHMIS Certificate.
• Previous experience in a plant or fabrication environment.
• Experience with basic hand tools and plastic fusion welders in particular.
• Previous forklift experience is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

• Skilled at reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Knowledge of Quality Program (ISO) and capable of accessing program information could be an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Willing and able to work night shifts.

WORK CONDITIONS 

This is a full-time, hourly, and on-site position.
