Position Description

Layfield has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly ambitious Engineering Business Manager (EBM). The EBM will be responsible for increasing the demand for Layfield’s geosynthetics and environmental containment products and services within an assigned region. This professional specialist role will achieve this result through working with internal and external customers, primarily engineers, to set specifications and follow through to ensure Layfield secures the opportunities that have been created. The success of this role will be measured by the number of opportunities created and sold that include our geosynthetics and environmental containment products and services.

The ideal candidate will understand the importance of listening to our clients and providing them with technically sound solutions to meet their design or project requirements. This position will have a matrix reporting structure to the Director of US Sales and to the Engineering Business Group Manager. The primary territory is Western USA with travel expectation up to 50%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical promotion of Layfield products and services to engineers, owners, contractors, and distributors primarily involved in civil, Industrial, mining, and oil and gas to maximize the number of specifications set and held for Layfield specialty products and services.
  • Provide persistent client prospecting, project tracking, and lead generation for targeted segments and geographies.
  • Develop an understanding of the needs of individuals responsible for setting specifications within the targeted sectors and geographies.
  • Elevate Layfield’s profile within the engineering community through participation in industry associations and events including presentation of technical papers at trade conferences.
  • Develop customer confidence and goodwill as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Create technical content and images that can be used to develop more effective marketing messages, including case studies, project profiles, and digital-media-sized project summaries.
  • Incorporate the voice of the customer in our product development activities. Stay on top of opportunities to improve or create new products.
  • Work closely with the sales team to develop and deliver technical solutions to our customers.
  • Travel within the assigned territory to train and support Sales Group and customers.
  • Always represent the company in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Maintain accurate and updated records in the company’s CRM (MS Dynamics).
  • May train and, at times direct the activities of sales representatives but has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • The ability to focus and persevere on tasks that require input from external sources.
  • Exceptional oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask.
  • Driven, self-starter with superb interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills including proficient use of MS Dynamics CRM.

Education & Experience:

  • Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist, or relevant industry experience.
  • Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in a Technical Promotions or Engineering / Technologist role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
