Position Description

Position Overview/Job Description 

The Shipper/Receiver executes order fulfillment, shipments, receipt of goods, organization of materials, and material movements under the direction of the Transport & Warehouse Supervisor. 

Key Responsibilities:  

 Works to achieve desired project outcomes. Focuses on customer satisfaction, teamwork, quality and a safe harmonious workplace. Ensures that communications are effectively transmitted to all necessary parties. 

Shipping:  

  • Assembles and packages goods for shipment to fulfil sales orders and material transfers 
  • Confirms correct quantities, SKU’s, and condition of goods prior to shipment and escalates issues as appropriate 
  • Prepares shipping documentation including any export documentation 
  • Arranges and schedules optimal freight services with approved carriers 
  • Operates forklifts, reach trucks, double-deep type reach trucks, and pallet jacks to loads goods into/onto trucks and containers for shipment 
  • As assigned, may be required to operate loading crane, to load flat deck/Super B trucks in accordance to established procedures.  
  • Promptly records and communicates shipment information according to standard operating procedures using systems such as barcode scanners, bin picking systems 
  • Interacts with Supply Chain and Production staff, Customer Service and Sales , as well as transportation dispatch and drivers 

 Receiving: 

  • Schedules receipt of goods delivered by truck and rail 
  • Operates forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks to unload inbound goods 
  • Places received goods in appropriate storage locations in warehouses 
  • Promptly records and communicates receipt of goods according to standard operating procedures ( utilizing Ritescan barcode scanners and preparation of Finance receipt documentation package  
  • Inspects incoming materials for order completeness and freight damages, also works closely with QA Team on issues within established procedures 
  • As assigned and trained, prepare railcar loading and unloading (Rail E-Safe certification required) 

 Warehouse Operations: 

  • Maintains and organizes storage of goods in warehouses and yards 
  • Assists in periodic inventory counts and regular cycle counts. 
  • Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of equipment used in the shipping department. 
  • Demonstrates safe work habits and good housekeeping in the loading docks, warehouses, and storage yards within established safety guidelines 
  • Makes recommendations to improve packaging standards and loading/unloading procedures 
  • Other related duties as assigned by Transport & Warehouse Supervisor, inclusive of Shipper / Receiver assignments in other Layfield adjacent warehouses to assist with workload and vacation coverage.  

 Education & Experience 

  • Completion of related education and/or a combination of education and experience. 
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years industry related duties. Must show progression in past positions and demonstrate analytical ability. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Analytical analysis of shipping and vendor documents. 
  • Proven success in safety and exceptional safety record 
  • Proven ability in sound decision making. 
  • Driven self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Previous direct experience in shipping and receiving in a warehousing environment 
  • Previous experience with barcode scanners for order process, inventory, receipts, etc.   
  • Independent but able to work well within a team environment. 
  • High degree of competence in written and oral communication. 
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office suite skills. 
  • Knowledge/experience of inventory programs. 
  • Knowledge of shipping documentation requirements including waybills, bills of lading, customs clearance documentation 
  • Knowledge of overland, ocean, and air freight modes and equipment 
  • Expert in use of material handling equipment (forklifts, overhead cranes, reach trucks, and pallet jacks) to move goods 
  • Expert in optimized packaging and packing of goods for shipping. 
  • Superior attendance record 
  • Works well under tight deadlines and team environment  
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis 
  • Willingness and ability to work shift work (day/evening/night) and weekends.
