Position Overview:
As a key member of the Technical Services team, the Technical Product Manager is responsible for the development of the strategic plan for Layfield’s Food and Pet food product lines. The Technical Product Manager possesses a highly technical skillset along with strong business acumen and analytical abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all technical aspects- Quality and Sustainability of a Product.
  • Become the go-to resource for the Product line for all other functions including sales, marketing, customer service, operations and R&D.
  • In collaboration with Operations, Scheduling, Planning, the Product Manager leads asset optimization initiatives (asset utilization, (specifically converting & printing), production rate and efficiency improvement and waste reduction).
  • Responsible for maintaining/optimizing existing Product offering and developing new and profitable product generations.
  • Supports sales team in each regional area, in close cooperation with the Operations and R&D.
  • Responsible for the Product’s full compliance with…
    • all applicable food and drug regulations in the countries which the Products are sold;
    • all Layfield internal regulations and Code of Conduct;
    • local market requirements and
    • any other relevant laws.
  • Responsible for managing the Product Roadmap, a strategic expression of the upcoming product development needs and market evolution. This must include guidance from VP of Sales & Technical, VP of Operation or (Executive Group) and capacity evolution and must be developed together with Operations.
  • Responsible for provision all Layfield required reporting that pertains to Product activity inside and outside of the BU.
  • Responsible for training of any relevant personnel dealing directly or indirectly with the Product, including delivering or preparing relevant training for clients. 
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating new product development together with R&D from inception to commercialization including product ideation, direct testing, prototype/sampling activities, product launch and sales performance monitoring.
  • The Product Manager plays a critical role in pricing recommendations and controls the cost of the Product, preparation of specification material and product feature sheets.
  • Supports any RFQ, bid packages or similar client initiatives referencing the Product in any of the Markets; ensures best efforts are put forward to maximize Layfield chances to win/retain profitable business.
  • Must interface well with all relevant internal parties (Product Development, Sales Representatives, Operations, QA, Marketing, Business Development, etc.) to represent Product relevant needs, opportunities, client feedback, complaints etc.
  • Responsible for the annual budgeting process (Product sales, price, cost, departmental spending, product development, market research, marketing communications, training, travel and entertainment).
  • Promotes teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within all participating Market Segments and within Layfield more broadly. Interacts with all levels of the operation in support all Layfield programs.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and performs all duties in a safe and professional manner.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating technical specification with IPF(International Product Facility) vendors
Secondary duties:
  • Stays abreast of commercial and technical developments in the relevant areas of the film industry through established contacts (e.g. sales personnel, customers, suppliers, seminars, conferences, trade publications with focus on the Product and competitive Product offerings).
  • Recommends, prepares and defends the acquisition of alternate product technologies or production processes, external business models worthy of investigating, and reacts to competitive activity accordingly.
  • Recommends, prepares and defends improvement proposals that affect Layfield beyond the Market, whether organizational, procedural or of any kind.

Education & Experience:
Education: Food Science Degree (Preferred)
Experience: 2-3 years
