Customer required a method to cover and maintain water temperature and minimize debris infiltration to a fish hatchery rearing pond in NW Washington State. Water supply to the pond was provided from well water that required control of algae growth during the warmer spring and summer months.
Layfield designed and installed a modular insulated cover (MIC) that consisted of 2” foam insulation encapsulated in fabricated polyethylene panels. The panels were installed on two ponds with irregular dimensions separated by a 20’ wide weir between them. Layfield installed 52 prefabricated panels 8’ wide and in varying lengths up to 52’ connecting the panels to form the desired pond dimensions.
