Floating Silt Curtain Used in River Road Construction
The City of Edmonton
7' Deep Floating Silt Curtain
One of Edmonton's main outfalls to the North Saskatchewan River was in dire need of repair. Access was very restricted and required the construction of a temporary road at the edge of the river. Due to the amount of sediment within the imported fill as well as any sediment from the river bottom that would be released during construction a floating silt curtain was specified to enclose the construction area.
The standard specified curtain design could not handle the high flow rates encountered and needed to be replaced with a new design which could. Layfield was able to design and replace the failed curtains within a couple of days. The city, the contractor and the engineering consultants were all pleased with the speed and ability of Layfield to adapt to the changing requirements at short notice.
