Methane Vapor Barrier
LOCATION: Calgary, AB
SCOPE OF WORK: Under-building methane collection system design and install
PROJECT PARTNERS: Owner: Calgary Regional Health Authority
When the new Colonel Belcher senior’s care housing complex in Calgary, Alberta required an under-building methane collection system, the services of Layfield to provide the supply and installation of the system were called upon. The system was comprised of a 30 mil PVC methane barrier layer on top, a 10 oz non-woven geotextile to provide protection to the liner, and a sub-grade of gravel containing a network of weeping tile to collect and vent the methane.
Due to the extensive construction schedule, the Layfield team of installation experts were required to mobilize and demobilize several times over a ten month period to complete the multiple building areas involved in this project. Encountering not only several tricky mechanical anchorage design and installation situations but also having to contend with all four seasons of Calgary weather. The high material elongation, flexiblity and excellent welding properties of PVC made this an excellent material choice for this application.
Layfield completed the challenging project safely and provided Carewest with a successful solution to their problem.
