LOCATION: Ontario TIMEFRAME: 2012 PRODUCT: CSPE 45 mil, Enviro Liner 6040 PROJECT PARTNERS: Geomembrane Supplier and Installer - Layfield Geosynthetics
The City of London, Ontario, had major concerns surrounding population growth and ageing infrastructure. The current reservoir of approximately 10,000m2 and capacity of 45,500m3 experienced significant structural issues, including leaks and a failing cover requiring immediate rehabilitation and expansion. City Engineers RV Anderson approached Layfield to provide some suggestions on a floating cover system, design improvements.
Layfield proposed the supply & install of a passive defined sump floating cover fabricated with CSPE Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene. CSPE covers easily manage precipitation using rainwater collection trenches, sand-filled ballast tubes and sump. One major challenge for this project was that the completion had to be done quickly as the reservoir was decommissioned during its service time. CSPE 45mil has a proven track record for municipal water & floating cover systems. It is scrim-reinforced, highly UV stable, has excellent weather properties and has a 30-year material warranty. The liner for the reservoir was made with Enviroliner EL6040 rated for potable water use in primary containment, high multi-axial elongation, durable and flexible for prefabrication.
Layfield procured the materials and began installation in less than one month from when the job was awarded. Layfield cleaned the sludge in the reservoir and then placed the new liner over top of the existing primary containment liner. The project was completed on schedule, and the City of London was pleased with the project delivery.
