PROJECT SUMMARY
Record high lake levels during spring, and significant storm events caused considerable damage along the Lake Ontario shoreline. Following a major rehabilitation of the St. Lawrence Park Mississauga boardwalk, the area was hit once again with another storm event with high water. Large waves breaking over the boardwalk, stripped away the vegetation and soil recently placed during a previous rehabilitation. John George Associates and the City of Mississauga consulted with Layfield for a solution to stabilize the shoreline soils and protect the vegetation along the boardwalk. Layfield suggested the Presto GEOWEB® Cellular Confinement system to stabilize subsurface soils and topped off with PYRAMAT® High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat to provide anchorage for the vegetation roots. Installation of the GEOWEB®, PYRAMAT® TRM and sod took place in December 2019. A follow-up inspection in September 2020 revealed the sod and vegetation were thriving and had securely rooted into the system.
Testimonial: John George Associates – "I'm very pleased with the GEOWEB® and PYRAMAT® Solution. I will definitely consider this approach for future shoreline restoration projects".
