Layfield Geosynthetics was pleased to attend and present several technical papers at this year’s GeoAsia8 Conference 2025 in Brisbane, Australia. Below, you will find a quick summary and a link to download the full Technical Paper.

Case Study – Challenging Environmental Containment for Large Crude Oil Terminal Storage Facility
Presented by Brian Fraser
This paper highlights a large and highly complex secondary containment geomembrane installation as part of a major crude oil terminal pipeline infrastructure project on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada.  This was a challenging geomembrane containment project designed to provide critical environmental containment for 14 new large above ground crude oil tanks, providing an expanded 26 tank farm storage facility.  The site also required the installation of geomembrane lined fire suppression and storm water treatment ponds. The project is located in a highly environmentally sensitive urban area of the metropolitan Vancouver region.  The project included the manufacturing and installation of a high-performance polyolefin alloy geomembrane material and a geocomposite drainage product installed in 14 separate earth and concrete constructed berm areas.

Development of a High Performance Geosynthetic Drainage Net
Presented by Alex Gersch
This paper discusses the response to a request from an international mining corporation for a tailored drainage solution, having developed a Geonet drainage composite to meet next generation performance requirements. This geocomposite is crafted using a cutting-edge resin design and formulations that amplify its resistance to both environmental stress cracking and slow crack growth failures by more than 40 times compared to the standard Geonet in the industry. Data gathered that delves into the basic principles of polymers to elucidate why this material significantly surpasses the performance of existing market offerings. Furthermore, we explore the rigorous testing procedures implemented during the product’s development to ensure its longevity and effectiveness, targeted to the specific operational needs of the project.
