EDMONTON, AB– October 2026– Layfield, in partnership with Concept Tanks, is pleased to announce the first-ever Concept Tank™ water storage project in Canada, marking a significant milestone for the energy industry. The project is among the first high-volume engineered tank systems approved under British Columbia’s updated regulatory framework for produced water storage. It is expected to help shape the future of above-ground water management in Canada.
This 25,000 m³ Concept Tank™ storage system will be installed for one of Canada’s largest natural gas producers in Northeast British Columbia, supporting greater produced water reuse while reducing freshwater consumption. Designed for operational flexibility, the relocatable system features an integrated bird-net system and a double-lined containment design with a conductive leak detection layer, providing enhanced environmental protection and monitoring capabilities.
Recent updates to the BC Energy Regulator’s Management of Saline Fluids for Hydraulic Fracturing Guideline now recognize lined engineered tank systems as an accepted solution for large-scale above-ground fluid storage. This project is among the first to leverage these regulatory changes and demonstrates how innovative storage technologies can support operational efficiency, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability.
As regulatory frameworks continue to evolve, Layfield remains focused on delivering innovative containment and storage solutions that improve operational performance, increase sustainability, and support responsible resource development.
