Title: Enviro Liner - Performance

Enviro Liner® 6000 Series and Commodity Polyethylene Products, a Question of Performance

We have been a leader in the development of flexible membrane lining systems for many years. Our priority has been to deliver the highest value available in the geomembrane industry by providing the most innovative high performance products to our customers. As a result we are highly aware of available plastic technologies and their performance under the challenging service conditions found in the field.

Perhaps it is tempting to look at the available geomembranes in the marketplace and conclude they are all simply black plastic. This is a misleading and potentially hazardous assumption! All plastic products are not created equally. We develop geomembranes using a design by function approach, delivering finished products designed to safeguard your critical environmental containment applications at a competitive price. Accepting a poorly designed substitute can cost you more in the long run, not to mention the potential for an environmental release.

Enviro Liner® 6000 is a good example of a geomembrane designed to provide outstanding value and performance to our customers. Enviro Liner® 6000 is manufactured using the blown film manufacturing process. Designed primarily as a secondary containment liner for hydrocarbons and other chemicals, and as a primary containment liner for water and water based effluents, Enviro Liner® 6000 has been a best selling geomembrane for many years.

Enviro Liner® 6000 is based on a proprietary polyolefin polymer, similar in structure to linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The important aspects of the Enviro Liner® 6000 formulation which lead to outstanding performance and value in the field are the specific polyolefin polymer utilized in the blend and the customized additive package developed over the past number of years.

Enviro Liner® 6000 is produced with virgin, prime grade polymers only. This translates into consistent, repeatable performance in service. Many critical performance properties such as chemical resistance, cold temperature flexibility, and permeation rates across the liner vary significantly with the polymer type. The performance of recycled or off-grade polymers vary so greatly in these critical parameters that they can not be safely used in any critical containment application. A product with a known and repeatable polymer source, such as the prime grade resins used in Enviro Liner® 6000 , is a necessary starting point for any environmental containment project.

One good indication of the quality of the polymer used for a geomembrane is the type of specifications and warranty offered with the product. Enviro Liner ® 6000 is sold with certified minimum average roll value properties, with the actual test values for a given roll documented on a signed mill certificate. If a geomembrane is offered only on the basis of “Typical” properties, properties the manufacturer is under no obligation to achieve on any given roll of product, it is a good indication that the base polymer quality varies widely. A product which is accompanied by typical properties only, and no warranty, is a gamble. If it had consistent predictable performance it would have predictable properties.

Enviro Liner® 6000 is fully protected against UV degradation and oxidation with a technically advanced stabilization package. Unlike typical black commodity plastics, which are stabilized against the effects of UV light with carbon black alone, Enviro Liner® 6000 contains a proprietary Light Stabilizer specifically designed to provide long term performance in a geomembrane as thin as 30 mils. Enviro Liner® 6000 contains antioxidant additives sufficient to achieve a High Pressure OIT level of more than 2000 minutes, the highest OIT performance available in the Geosynthetic Industry. The durable Enviro Liner® 6000 formulation is routinely available in white or black colours, but due to our customized additive package any custom colour you desire could be produced.

Our UV light and antioxidant stabilizing package has been tested in our accelerated weathering equipment for more than two and a half years, under aggressive conditions that replicate more than 20 years of natural weather exposure. The performance of our additive package has proven to be excellent. We have completed testing that demonstrates that Enviro Liner® 6000 at 30 mil has an exposed service life equivalent to 60 mil HDPE. The black versions of Enviro Liner® 6000 come with an optional extended weathering warranty of 20 years for applications where the liner will be left exposed.

Enviro Liner® 6000 is the result of years of focused product development and field experience. The combination of a consistent, prime grade of polymer and an advanced, laboratory tested additive package gives Enviro Liner® 6000 properties and performance that recycled or LLPDE commodity products cannot match. Enviro Liner® 6000 is designed to deliver long term value and dependable environmental containment.
